An anonymous commenter calls our attention to this dispatch from the set of The Dark Is Rising, which states that among the upcoming movie's changes from Susan Cooper's book is "the addition of a love interest for The Walker."

why? why do they always have to have a love theme in movies? it's a kids movie for pete's sake! and who would love the walker, maybe before Merriman brought him out of his own time but now, yuck! i have no hope for this film
merryman would love the walker, his liege man hawkin, although he has choosen betrayal.in the film that would have been much more to learn from for young people than an ordinary love story...it's a pity
